Your brightness increases when you light the light in others.
Who can I serve today?
Everything you need to know about giving starts with one question. It’s that simple. Being of service means being helpful – and most importantly, stepping outside yourself. Taking off the blinders and looking around. Lighting the light.
“Fresh and inspiring.”Jussi Rasanen, JCI, Junior Chamber International
You don’t have to start a charity, build a well, or knit sweaters for abandoned alpacas but, by all means, please do so if those actions speak to you. Go. Start right now.
If you’re still here, wondering what to do, and worrying that you don’t have enough time or focus to serve, or you don’t feel like you’re enough, let me share a little-known secret: one of the great ironies of self-development is that confidence and self-worth blossom when you help others.
“Absolutely amazing.”Vicky Booker, Insight HR
So here’s what you do. Every day, look for opportunities to flex your kindness muscle.
- Who can I help today?
- Whose business can I boost?
- Whose mood can I brighten?
- Whose work can I support?
- Who needs an encouraging word or a heartfelt compliment?
- And so on. You get the idea.
I created this space to emphasize that service isn’t a project or a task on your to-do list. It’s a daily practice of being useful. It’s seeing opportunities to engage, uplift, encourage and transform. Watch this space for more ideas, stories and daily suggestions.
“Inspiring. Massively positive feedback.”Rosa Thurman, Finnish-British Chamber of Commerce
